POETRY, FICTION AND NONFICTION
We accept submissions of previously unpublished poetry, fiction and nonfiction from April 1 through Oct. 1, concurrent with the reading period for our annual literary contest.
Each submission must include a $10 reading fee (for one prose piece or up to three poems), payable electronically or by regular U.S. mail, and will be considered for one of three $200 literary prizes.
We are especially interested in works that relate to some aspect of our mission, which is promoting self-sufficient living, environmental stewardship and local economies. We are also interested in works by writers with a Southern connection, and works written with a Southern slant or that focus on Southern issues, people and places.
HOW TO SUBMIT
Each entry must include a title page with the following information:
- Title of submission
- Category (nonfiction, poetry, fiction)
- Author’s name, address, phone number and optional e-mail address
Names and personal information will be removed for judging purposes.
- Entries must be author’s original, unpublished work
- 5,000 word limit for prose
- 50 line limit for poetry
- Winners in each category receive $200 and publication in the winter issue
- Entry Fee: $10 for ONE prose entry or up to THREE poems (each no longer than 50 lines); make checks or money orders payable to Swallowtail Press
- Multiple entries accepted in all categories
- Postmark deadline: October 1, 2009

SUBMISSIONS ONLINE
We prefer electronic submissions. Use the link below to submit your work. Multiple entries are accepted but must be submitted individually online. A single entry may include up to three poems, up to 50 lines each, one short story or novel excerpt, up to 5,000 words, or memoir or personal essay, up to 5,000 words. Attach as a single RTF (rich text file), TXT (plain text file) or PDF document only.
After you send your submission, a secure PayPal link will appear below prompting you to pay your entry fee. Payment must be made electronically or by U.S. mail (check payable to Swallowtail Press) within seven days. All unpaid entries will be discarded after seven days.
