New editor, publisher Maggie Brown takes the helm

Maggie Brown

From Founding Editor Bobbi Buchanan

I’m pleased to announce that Maggie Brown is the new editor and publisher of New Southerner, a publication that I launched in 2005 to promote the ideas of self-sufficiency, environmental stewardship, and local economies. Maggie is a writer, professor at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, and an environmental activist. Under the pseudonym The Darling M., she produces blogs, essays, and videos to promote sustainability with the motto “loving a finite planet to infinity.” She’s also interested in how arts and culture influence environmental stewardship.

Maggie earned a bachelor of fine arts in theatre and a master of arts in English literature, both from Western Kentucky University. I believe that her energy and enthusiasm will serve New Southerner readers well.

I will continue to support the journal as a contributing editor, and I hope that our readers will rally around Maggie as she takes on this new enterprise. In these uncertain times, the values that we stand behind are more important than ever. Stay tuned for exciting changes over the coming months. Thank you, as always, for reading.
